After patches of frustrating weather, Storm Trysail Club Block Island Race Week, presented by Margaritaville delivered a fantastic regatta, coming to a close on Friday 25th. Cyclops Marine was honoured to be involved as an official event sponsor for the first time; competitors enjoyed a great week of racing and our team of representatives had the pleasure of meeting many in the race village.
Ian “Chips” Howarth (CEO of Cyclops Marine) had grateful words for all involved:
“It’s great for a company like Cyclops, where our focus is on improving the performance and experience of every sailor, to be involved with the best regattas in the sailing calendar, so that our team can provide support to our customers on the ground and discuss the benefits of our technology with competitive sailors… all the time adding to our own knowledge of what sailors are really looking for in our technology. Our thanks go out to Storm Trysail Club and everyone involved in the event for having us at the 29th Block Island Race Week.”
Between discussing the competitive benefits of Cyclops wireless load-sensing technology, the Cyclops team had fun demonstrating the simplicity of their sensors by running a “Pulling Contest”—using the load sensors to find the strongest sailor. After some gut-busting efforts the leaderboard can now be revealed:
1 – 222kg – Chris Oliver, XP44, Phantom
2 – 152kg – Mark Fesenmeyer, Beneteau 36.7 Sunshine Dream
3= 121kg – Andrew Pappas, Mills 43, Cool Breeze
3= 121kg – Nicholas McGhee, Ranger 33, Java Jive
5 – 103kg – Larry Murphy, Beneteau 36.7, Sunshine Dream
Congratulations to Chris Oliver who walks away with $3,000 worth of wireless load sensing equipment!
Cyclops Marine looks forward excitedly to next year and the 30th installment of this unmissable race week!
